A COMPLICATION OF WORDS AND PHRASES
This anthology deals with problems such as love and loss and questions of identity in a far more complex way. This piece well reflects the internal turmoil of the authors while trying to undergo their experiences and talking of the possibility that lies within all of us. Every poem in the anthology speaks to the struggle and triumph of man's psyche toward the battle against anxiety and the complications involved in connecting with another being. The delicacy of pairs; despair and hope, is experienced across the anthology, thus making the readers connect with instances while thinking back over them. Through metaphors, such as coal turning into a diamond, the poets come out strongly to expose the laudable harshness that very much exists within every individual, the harshness that brings to light the greatness of beauty in the end. They bare a naked inner monolog filled with anger, feelings of inadequacy and abandonment, creating an attachment to the viewer. -

About The Book

Never did I imagine the opposite could happen.” Meet Jay Sharma, a spirited Indian-American middle schooler who's never had the chance to explore the land of his heritage. But when an unexpected move whisks him away from New York City home sweet home to bustling and vibrant Bangalore, Jay is thrown into a world of unfamiliar rules and rigid traditions. (Who would have thought that phones weren't allowed in classrooms?) And that’s just the start of his many, many problems. Suddenly, Jay is the centre of attention in this new country, torn between two worlds. How can he decide if he is Indian or American if he keeps juggling between each country? Will he ever be able to ? American Born Indian is an equal parts funny, poignant and heartwarming middle-grade novel that explores themes of cultural identity, self-acceptance, and the journey to discovering one's true self in a new and unfamiliar land.Author Bio

About The Book Nine year old Birdhi's life is upended as a consequence of his father's death. The year is 1940 and against his wishes, his elder sister, Shakuntala, forces him to immigrate and live with her in-laws in the Kingdom of Sikkim. Over the next fifty years, as an Indian (im)migrant living in Sikkim, Birdhi builds an unlikely friendship with the Sikkimese Maharaja (Chogyal), meets an Indian Prime Minister, and is unwittingly dragged into playing a role in the Sikkimese democratic revolution. The advent of democracy changes the lives of the Indian community members in Sikkim. Their identity transforms overnight, from foreigners protected by the Indian Government to a racial minority in India's newest state-Sikkim. Against this backdrop, Birdhi is forced to negotiate questions about his identity, his place in this new society, and to answer the central question - What would it take for him to be considered a Sikkimese?

About the Book
